COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Save at least $12,000 a year by spending $5,500? That’s the bottom line for Branch County Commissioners in their decision Tuesday to reduce paper costs and go high tech in the Board meeting room.
Fifth District Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker of Coldwater, who chairs the Board’s House Committee, made the recommendation to move ahead with the purchase of I-Pads for Commissioners and video monitors for the meeting room. Hazelbaker said the Commission spends around $12,000 annually for paper, ink, and the staff to collate all of the materials. County Administrator Bud Norman estimated it would take about 2 months for the change over to the I-Pad system.
The County Board yesterday also approved spending about $70,000 on fix up projects at the county jail, including plumbing improvements, updated lighting, and video cameras and related security. Nearly all of the project costs would be covered by the county’s jail millage fund
