LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette wants to convene a grand jury to look into the fungal meningitis outbreak that has impacted the state.

Schuette has asked the Michigan Court of Appeals to appoint a multi-county grand jury to look into the case to determine if there are any grounds for criminal charges.  The outbreak, which is linked to contaminated steroids produced at the New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts, has resulted in 259 cases of meningitis in the state and 14 deaths.

The steroids were distributed to medical facilities in Washtenaw, Macomb, Genesee and Grand Traverse counties.
