A lot of news out of the Tigers spring training camp in Lakeland besides their 6-to-5 Grapefruit League loss to the Braves yesterday afternoon. The top story was Detroit manager Jim Leyland announcing that right-hand pitcher Rick Porcello has earned the fifth spot in the starting rotation while lefty Drew Smyly will work out of the bullpen. Leyland also said that unless something happens out of the blue, Matt Tuiasosopo has made the team, an unlikely roster survivor while fellow outfielder Avisail Garcia was put on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to last Friday, because of a bruised right heel. And pitcher Luke Putkonen was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. It still leaves Leyland with a lot of hard cuts before Detroit heads north and their regular season opener Monday afternoon at Minnesota.
