VATICAN, IT (WTVB) - Pope Francis has taken the lead this Easter week, showing time and time again that he is a different kind of pope, rejecting life in the Papal suites for a two room apartment, and washing the feet of juvenile inmates.
Western Michigan University Professor of Comparative Religion Dr. Rudolf Seibert says he may be the right Pope at the right time. Seibert says as a South American and a Jesuit, he need not be restrained by recent traditions carried on by the European Popes. Seibert says the church remains in crisis, torn between traditionalists and reformers and coming off the sex abuse scandals. It appears the College of Cardinals has decided it was time for a change.
