The Red Wings blew a 4-1 third period lead last night at Anaheim but then Gustav Nyquist scored 1:21 into overtime to give Detroit a 5-4 win over the Ducks and even up their Stanley Cup Western Conference quarterfinal series at a game apiece. The 7-game set now shifts east for Games 3 and 4 coming up tomorrow night and Monday at Joe Louis Arena. Johan Franzen scored twice, while Justin Abdelkader and Damien Brunner both lit the lamp in the first period for Detroit.
Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock said this was a wild game Jimmy Howard made 28 saves in the victory for the Red Wings, who lost rookie Danny DeKeyser for the season. The defenseman from Western Michigan went out with a broken thumb apparently suffered in the third period.
