The Tigers yesterday finished off a 4-game sweep at Houston, pounding the Astros 9-to-0, a day after they won at Minute Maid Park 17-to-2.
Justin Verlander struck out nine over seven sharp innings of two-hit ball on Sunday to help Detroit to its ninth victory in ten games.
The Tigers are off today before playing the Nationals in Washington tomorrow night and Wednesday night. Verlander, who improved to 4-and-2 yesterday, carried a no-hitter into the seventh before serving up a one-out single to Carlos Pena. Detroit's offense provided Verlander with plenty of run support as the Tigers belted 4 home runs. Detroit stays in first place in the American League Central by half a game over Kansas City after the Royals beat the White Sox 6-to-5 in ten innings. And the Cubs lost 7-to-4 to Cincinnati as the Reds completed a 3-game sweep at Wrigley Field.
