BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) - A very positive outlook for Branch County and Southwest Michigan from noted economist Dr. Brian Long, who says his monthly survey of area business trends from the factory floors is showing its best numbers in two years, as the region’s economy continues to outpace the recovery in the rest of the nation. Long says the numbers are rather strongly up compared to what has been happening, particularly at the end of 2012 when things were actually at or near the breakeven point.
Dr. Long says most industries are just bumping along, and it’s still autos and auto parts that are driving the economy back to full speed. He says the housing industry is rebounding and that is not only helping the mood of consumers, but bumping up pick-up sales. He says the European recession continues to be a drag on the market, but at least it appears they are no longer teetering on the edge of collapse.
