Detroit was denied a fifth straight win last night with a 3-to-1 setback at Washington, where the beginning of the game was delayed just under an hour due to rain. The Tigers and Nationals are due to wrap up the brief two game series this afternoon with Doug Fister on the mound for Detroit.
Last night, Tigers’ starter Anibal Sanchez lost his pitching matchup with the National’s Jordan Zimmerman. Bryce Harper homered off Sanchez in the fifth to put Washington up 3-1 and earlier had a sacrifice fly in the third that tied the game at one after Miguel Cabrera’s rbi single gave the Tigers a 1-to-0 lead in the top of the frame.
Sanchez fanned eight over six frames as he fell to 3-and-3 and the Tigers lost for just the second time in 11 games.
The White Sox doubled up the Mets 6-to-3 last night at Citi Field while the Cubs fell to the Cardinals 5-to-4 in the afternoon at Wrigley Field.
