Penalties to Joe Gibbs Racing are being significantly reduced. An appeals panel lowered the fines assessed by NASCAR to JGR last month for an illegal engine used in Matt Kenseth's race-winning car at Kansas Speedway. Kenseth and owner Joe Gibbs will both be penalized with a loss of 12 points instead of the original 50 points.
That elevates Kenseth from 11th in the point standings to fourth. Crew Chief Jason Ratcliff also had his suspension reduced from six races to one. He will serve the suspension this weekend at Darlington Raceway and will be on probation for three races after that. Live coverage of the Bojangles Southern 500 from Darlington on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 begins at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
