The Red Wings last night held on for a 3-to-2 Game Seven victory at Anaheim and now it’s on to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs to face the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference semifinals. Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader each scored in the first period for Detroit and Valtteri Filppula added a goal in the second period for the number-seven seeded Red Wings.
Jimmy Howard made 31 saves in net for Detroit. Zetterberg, who also had an assist last night, talked about the upcoming challenge of taking on the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks swept the 4-game regular season series from the Red Wings, including two shootout wins and one overtime victory. The NHL won’t announce the schedule for the Detroit-Chicago series until after tonight’s games but Game One is expected to begin Wednesday night in the Windy City.
