OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) - A 32-year old man was injured in a fire at his house trailer early today in Branch County’s Ovid Township. The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, called 9-1-1 around 12:30 this morning and said he was having trouble breathing and was trapped by smoke in his bedroom of the trailer located on East Pearl Road just east of Old 27. About 2-minutes later, he told Central Dispatch that he had managed to escape the fire and was outside the home but still had labored breathing. The Lakeland Fire Department responded and had the small blaze under control by 1 a.m. and completely out in another half hour.
The fire damage was confined to the bedroom. Lakeland Fire Chief Paul Searing said it was an accidental fire but the cause remains under investigation. The victim, who was alone in the mobile home, was admitted to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment of smoke inhalation and is listed in fair condition
