COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Monday night in boys soccer, Coldwater was a winner on the road with a 5-2 non-conference victory at Battle Creek Lakeview. Haroon Aljabaly and Wageeh Saeed each scored 2 goals, while Mana Ahmed had one goal and one assist. Fadel Said had 2 assists and Abdul Haggagi had one. Waheeb Ahmed and Balal Nasser shared time in goal and each made 4 saves as the Cardinals improved their record to 11-3-1.
Coldwater is off until Thursday when they return to Interstate 8 play in a varsity only game at Harper Creek. The Cardinals were scheduled to host Jackson Lumen Christ tonight, but the Titans are forfeiting the match due to a lack of players because of injuries and eligibility.
The Coldwater JV team will still host Kalamazoo Hackett this evening starting at 5 pm. The JV Cardinals stayed undefeated last night with a 3-1 win at Battle Creek Lakeview. Scoring goals for Coldwater were Mohsen Saleh, Dominick Kelly and Nasser Zamzami. The Cardinals outshot the Spartans 21-6 with 5 saves in goal for Alex Schaale. The Coldwater JV record is now 14-0.
Yesterday afternoon in boys tennis, Coldwater travelled to Pennfield for an Interstate Eight Conference match and beat the Panthers 8-0. Winners for the Cardinals were Javier Perez-Marsa at first singles, Nate Waterbury at second singles, Kumaran Arivol at third singles, and Porter Skidmore at fourth singles. And sweeping the doubles were Nolan Duda and Austin Butler at first doubles, Kam Miller and Shane O’Grady at second doubles, Nick Galliers and Christian Pine at third doubles, and Mitchell Duda and Evan Henry at fourth doubles. The Cardinals improved their conference record this season to 6-0.
In junior varsity volleyball, Coldwater went undefeated in winning Saturday’s Onsted Invitational. Emilee Smoker had 30 assists, Malorie Rzepka had 24 kills, and Darlene Horn had 20 digs.
Tonight in varsity high school sports, in Big 8 Conference volleyball, Quincy hosts Athens while Union City is at home against Springport. Today in cross country, Quincy and Union City travel to Reading for a Conference Jamboree while Bronson is at Comstock. And in boys tennis, Bronson hosts Hillsdale.
In the third weekly Michigan Associated Press high school football rankings for this season, undefeated Coldwater has moved into the top ten in Division 3. The 5-0 Cardinals, who were honorable mention in the first two polls, are ranked number nine in the state this week. Coming up Friday night, it’s homecoming for Coldwater with the Cardinals taking on Jackson Lumen Christi, a team they have never beaten. The Titans slipped into a three way tie for second place in the Interstate Eight Conference behind Coldwater when they fell last week at Marshall for their first loss this season. Lumen Christi this week dropped from second to fifth in the AP Division Six poll.
In volleyball, for the second straight week, Bronson is the Class C top-ranked team in the state in the latest Coaches Association poll released on Monday.
