LANSING, MI (WTVB) - No final decisions have been made, but discussions continued this week in Lansing over the possible expansion of the Medicaid system in the state of Michigan. 58th District State Representative Ken Kurtz of Coldwater says there are a number of factors that need to be weighed. Currently 1.8 million Michigan residents are on Medicaid, with the federal government hoping to expand that by another 300,000 people. Kurtz says where the money for that expansion come from needs to be worked out before any plan is finalized.
Kurtz also says some lawmakers are proposing tying personal responsibility measures into any expansion, requiring recipients to live healthier lifestyles to qualify for benefits.
