LANSING, MI (WTVB) - With Memorial Day coming up this weekend, It's time to buckle up, or pay up. The start of another two week Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign begins today. Police agencies across the state, including State Police from the Coldwater Post, will be paying extra attention to whether drivers and their passengers are buckled up, and it comes at a pivotal time. Anne Readett with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says compliance with seat belts has gone down in the state in recent years, from a high of 97% to the current 94%.
Readett says that women are generally better than men at making sure they're buckled up, and in fact, it's men in pickups who have the lowest seat belt compliance rate.
