Michigan fireworks law likely effective by July 4th

LANSING (WKZO) -- Lawmakers in Lansing have not yet passed changes to the law governing fireworks in Michigan but hope to have the final bill enacted by the Fourth of July.

The new measure would only allow residents to shoot off fireworks during a three-day period surrounding ten national holidays.  It also gives local communities the right to enact their own ordinances that would stop fireworks from going off between midnight and 8:00 a.m.

The state adopted a new fireworks law just last year to bring in additional revenue through licensing.  However, many complained about the explosives going off at all hours forcing lawmakers to amend the measure.
