DEARBORN (WKZO) -- Summer vacation is going to be a bit shorter for some Ford Motor Company workers.  The automaker plans on producing an extra 40-thousand units, meaning certain plants will be idled for only one week instead of two.

"To meet surging customer demand for our top-selling cars, utilities and trucks, we are continuing to run our North American facilities at full manned capacity," says Jim Tetreault, Ford vice president of North America Manufacturing, "and we will add 200-thousand units of annual straight-time capacity this year."

Twenty plants, including six assembly plants will be taking a reduced summer shutdown this year.
