COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Make it four straight months of lower jobless rates for Branch County. The State reported this week that the April unemployment rate for the county had fallen to 7.7%. That compares to a state-wide average last month of 8.2% with the local rate a half-a percent below the March number and compares to 8.8% in February for the county and 9.2% to begin 2013 in January. A year ago in April, the unemployment rate in Branch County was 7.9%.
Job gains last month around Michigan were mostly seasonal and confined to four industry sectors, led by a 13,000 employee increase in leisure and hospitality services. Other over-the-month job advances were posted in construction, trade, transportation and utilities, education, and health services. The state’s remaining industry sectors exhibited little change in April.
