LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Legislation sponsored by State House Representative Margaret O’ Brien to streamline the adoption process in the state of Michigan, is scheduled for a final vote this week. The five bill package gives new mothers only 72 hours to revoke their consent to give away their baby. There is no limit in current law.
O’Brien’s bill would reduce the period of supervision for parents who adopt a baby under a year old from 6 months to 3 months. It would continue to be 6 months for older kids.
