COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Families who depend on the Bridge Card to put food on their tables will start receiving less as of today because stimulus money is running out. Negotiations on the final form of the Farm Bill could cut further into those subsidies, and leave millions ineligible for the assistance. In Branch County, more than 7,200 people will be dealing with the cuts with about $750,000 less in funding headed to the county as a result.
Southwest Michigan Congressman Fred Upton tells us that the added possible reductions tied to the Farm Bill won’t happen, that those cuts approved by the House will not survive the conference committee process. The Farm Bill negotiations are underway and Upton predicts they will be settled in a few weeks.
