DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Tigers new manager is Brad Ausmus. The 44-year old former Detroit catcher replaces Jim Leyland, who stepped down after the postseason. Ausmus played 18 years in the majors, including three with the Tigers, but he has never been a manager at the major or minor league level. He had been a special assistant in the San Diego Padres' front office since retiring as a player in 2010.
Speaking of Ausmus, Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Sunday, “ This guy was born to manage”. Detroit signed the Dartmouth educated Ausmus to a 3-year deal with a club option for a fourth year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
