COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Overcrowding conditions at the Branch County jail have eased up in recent weeks and officials hope that trend will continue but days like Friday won’t help. Corrections officers had to book in 12 people to the facility yesterday with the arrests of 7 men and 5 women. Five were picked up for probation violation and one for failure to appear. Other preliminary charges that brought the bookings included child neglect, B-&-E forced entry, fraud, and possession of synthetic narcotics.
However, the jail population remains below its rated capacity of 142 and at least on Friday, no one was pulled over for suspected drunk driving, an offense that seems to have been keeping local law enforcement authorities extra busy over the past month.
