Michigan and Michigan State cruise to easy wins in their college basketball opners

EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Michigan State and Michigan and the rest of the nearly 20 Top-25 teams that tipped off their schedules last night had winning starts to their seasons. Number-2 Michigan State ran past McNeese State 98-56 at the Breslin Center with Gary Harris leading the way with 20 points. The Spartans haven’t dropped a season opener at home since 1970. MSU next faces number-one Kentucky on Tuesday in the Champions Classic at the United Center in Chicago.

Meanwhile, the defending national runner-up Michigan Wolverines struggled early, but came alive in the second half and routed the UMass Lowell River Hawks 69-42 at Crisler Center. The seventh-ranked Wolverines were paced by Caris LeVert who came off the bench to score 17 points. Game Two for Michigan is Tuesday at home vs. South Carolina State.
