CHICAGO IL (WTVB) - It’s an early season showdown tonight with number two Michigan State squaring off against top-ranked Kentucky in the Champions Classic at the United Center in Chicago. This is the first meeting of the number one and two ranked teams on the hardwood since 2008 and the earliest ever between the top-two schools. The Spartans tuned up for tonight with a 98-56 victory over McNeese State Friday in their season opener. Kentucky is 2-and-0. Tonight’s second matchup at the Champions Classic features fifth-ranked Kansas against number-4 Duke.
Western Michigan last night beat Tennessee State 63-52 in Hawaii at the Rainbow Classic where the Broncos finished the tournament with a 2-and-1 record to begin their season. Seventh ranked Michigan looks to improve to 2-and-0 tonight when they host South Carolina State at Crisler Center.
