COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County government’s non-union management and non-union salaried employees will be joining the no pay increase line in 2014. The County Board of Commissioners yesterday adopted the recommendation of its personnel, plans and policy committee that the wages for the 50 or so non-union employees stay at their current amount with no hike for next year. 2014 will be the fourth straight year without a salary increase. The last time it happened in 2010, pay rates were boosted 2-and-a-half percent. The same goes for elected officials in Branch County after Commissioners last month extended their salary freeze for another year.
The County Board continues to examine what might be the best solution to eliminating a million dollar deficit that has to be shaved before they approve a 2014 spending plan at the end of next month. In other business Tuesday, the County Board agreed on the appointment of Dennis Knapp of Coldwater to the Board of Trustees of the Community Health Center of Branch County to fill the unexpired term of late ex-Trustees chairman Roger Young, who passed away in September. Knapp’s term will run through the end of 2014.
