Volleyball regionals get underway, Quincy soccer hands out post-season honors

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the team that ended Coldwater’s volleyball season Saturday in winning the MHSAA Class B Coldwater District was knocked out of the state tournament last night. Three Rivers fell in five games to Berrien Springs at the Plainwell Regional semi-finals. Harper Creek, which shared first place with Coldwater in SMAC East regular season play, eliminated Plainwell in five games in the other semi-final match. The Regional title will be decided tomorrow night. 

in Class-C, top-ranked Mendon, which won the Bronson district by taking out the host Lady Vikings in the finals last Saturday, swept past Big 8 Conference champion Concord 3-0 last night at the Adrian Madison Regional semi-finals. Mendon will face Adrian Madison tomorrow night for the Regional title. Today on the Coaches Corner, we’ll hear from Bronson volleyball coach Jean LeClair.

In boys soccer, Quincy’s Division Four District Championship squad had its annual team awards banquet Monday night and Jake Rider, Nick Haberl and Daniel Ojeda shared this season’s Most Valuable Player Award honors. Selected Defensive Players of the Year were Zack Bowerman and Aaron Cutler. Rider was named Offensive Player of the Year while Mr. Hustle honors went to Tanner Parshall.  And selected as Most Improved Players were Trenton Burrell and Brandon Gary. The Orioles 17-4-and-1 record helped earn Haberl and Rider Honorable Mention All State, All Region, First team All-District, and First Team All-Conference Independent Soccer League honors. Also selected to the All-District first team from Quincy were Ojeda, Cutler and Bowerman with Evan Albright and Bowerman second team All-Conference  and Cutler honorable mention All-Conference.  All-District At-Large recognition went to Parshall as well as Andrew Karney, Andy Parrish and Edward Castro. And Quincy coach Tim Hart was named District Coach of the Year.
