COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Although Branch County missed the brunt of the severe thunderstorms that roared into Michigan Sunday afternoon, high winds and heavy rain have still taken their toll. Branch County was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for about a half hour up until 4:15 pm Sunday, while a Tornado Watch, orginally posted until 8 pm, was cancelled early.
A High Wind Warning was issued by the National Weather Service until midnight. Consumers Energy, on their website, was reporting hundreds across the county without power. A recording on their emergency reporting telephone line said they were "experiencing an abnornally high number of telephone calls", and for a while their was no ability to leave a message or report an outage.
