COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Consumers Energy says some of the at least 2,500 customers of the utility in Branch County who lost power with yesterday’s high winds and thunderstorms might not have their power restored until Thursday night. State-wide, more than 85,000 Consumers customers lost service. No confirmed funnel clouds were reported in Michigan but wind gusts over 70 mph were recorded.  The top gust at the Branch County Memorial Airport last night was around 50 mph.

A Life-Care Ambulance para-medic was injured last night when his ambulance that was rushing to the Community Health Center of Branch County crashed into a large tree that had fallen onto the pavement along Union City road in Union Township around 7 pm. It occurred as a police officers was approaching from the opposite direction to warn drivers of the hazard. He was able to call for a second ambulance. The Life-Care medic was treated and released from the health center.

Consumers Energy says most of its customers in Branch County should have their power back on by tomorrow.
