BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) - In high school sports last night, two top-ranked volleyball teams from the area were state tournament quarterfinal winners and they advance to the MHSAA Final Four which tips off tomorrow at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. In Class-C, Mendon got by number seven Schoolcraft in five games at Delton-Kellogg while in Class-D at Litchfield, seven-time defending champion Battle Creek St. Philip eliminated fifth-ranked Hillsdale Academy 3-0. In the semi-finals, Mendon will take on 8th-ranked Grand Rapids Covenant Christian Friday afternoon while St. Philip tomorrow afternoon will go up against ninth-ranked Crystal Falls Forest Park. The four title matches are on Saturday.

The nomination process is underway for the 2014 induction class of the Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame. If you know of anyone who may meet the criteria for induction, the nomination deadline is Friday November 29th. This year, the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony has been set for the evening of December 27th between the third and fourth games on the first night of the 5th Annual Cardinal Holiday Hoops Tournament. The criteria for induction include: Graduation in 2009 or prior; Extensive honors, such as All-State, All-Conference, or All-Region; Major performer on a championship team; And post-high school competition at the collegiate or professional level. Another category for the nominees to be inducted includes people who have been diligent supporters of the CHS athletic program through monetary donations, long time service or volunteerism, or any other special gift to CHS. You can call the high school athletic office or the Legg Middle School assistant principal’s office for the necessary forms, which are also online at http://www.coldwaterschools.org. Again, the deadline for applications to be submitted for the 2014 induction class of the Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame is November 29th.
