WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- U.S. Senate Democrats have invoked the “Nuclear Option” to dislodge a legislative logjam in the Upper Chamber.
It eliminated Senate filibuster rules that have been in place for 100 years.
It’s resulted in a crisis in the federal courts as dozens of judgeships remain vacant because of Republican objections to Obama Nominees.
Yesterday the Democratic Majority voted 52 to 48 to change the rules, requiring only a simple majority for approval.
Michigan Democrat Carl Levin was one of three democrats to vote with republicans. He felt the vote was short-sighted.
Levin agreed that republicans had abused the rule and blame them for the vote on the rule change.
Republican leader Mitch McConnell is threatening to retaliate the next time they hold the majority.
