COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Even though volumes continue to drop, officials with the Community Health Center of Branch County say they are working to improve the hospital’s bottom line. Inpatient admissions for October at CHC dropped almost 24% from last year, with surgeries down 4.6% and Emergency Department visits down 3.1% from 2012. Those lower volumes caused the hospital to have an $845,000 loss for October 2013.
Hospital officials say they are working on fringe benefit modifications, physician recruitment, and daily flexing of staff as ways to improve their financial margin. Based on the hospital’s current financial position, the CHC Board of Trustees this week voted to amend their Capital Budget, dropping about $1.6 million from the plan, with another $791,000 pushed forward to the 2014 budget year.
