COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - On the Branch County sports scene, with the start of the girls high school basketball season still almost a week away, the only action right now is middle school boys basketball. Coldwater last night dropped three of four games to Harper Creek. The 8th grade A team suffered its first loss of the year, falling 42-37. Brady Beckhusen had 17 points and 9 rebounds. Ryan Gibson scored 10 points. The 8th grade B team lost 37-32. Noah Murphy and Porter Skidmore each scored 8, while Vito Barone had 6 rebounds.
The 7th grade A team beat Harper Creek 38-32. Gage McGuire led the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds. The 7th grade B team fell in overtime 20-16. Michael Kubel had 8 points and 5 rebounds. All four teams are back in action next Wednesday against Sturgis.
As of November 1st, the Golf Club of Coldwater has undergone a name change, now called The Golf Course of Coldwater. Longtime PGA pro Rolla Frisinger has also left the course, instead concentrating fulltime on his Foundation Golf Center. The course will be open in 2014 for leagues, a junior lessons series, and a full tournament schedule. The restaurant in the clubhouse, Bill’s Grill House, will remain open through the winter. The course, for many years known as the Coldwater Country Club, has been in operation since 1920.
