COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In high school volleyball, Coldwater had a 2-and-2 record Saturday at the St. John’s Red Wing Invitational with the Lady Cardinals losing to DeWitt in the Gold bracket quarterfinals. In pool play, Coldwater defeated Fowlerville and Jackson Lumen Christi before losing to Holt. Kenzie Galloway had 25 kills, Meghan Schorfhaar had 36 assists and 5 aces, and Michaela Gillette had 27 digs. Coldwater’s season record is now 14-13-and-8 and tonight, it’s Parents-Seniors Night with the Lady Cardinals hosting Kalamazoo Central.
In junior varsity volleyball on Saturday, Coldwater played 4 matches at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational with one split and 3 losses. Naomi Blansit had 12 kills while Shelby Kahler had 38 digs and 11 assists. Also in j-v volleyball, Union City had a 2-and-2 record at the Concord Invitational. Cassie Thorpe had 4 kills and 5 assists, MaKena Bartlett had 13 blocks and Carley Robertson had 11 aces.
In cross country, Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson ran Saturday at the Sturgis Kiwanis Invitational. In the five school division one and two race, the Coldwater boys team placed third with the girls in fourth place. The boys were led by Adam Clemens and Matt AcMoody while pacing the Lady Cardinals were Natalee Dally and Madison Marsh. Freshmen Zach Murphy, Jacob Fair, and Jordan Parkinson led the Coldwater junior varsity to a second place finish in their meet. In the division three and four competition with four schools, Quincy’s boys and girls teams finished in first place with the Bronson boys fourth and the girls third. In the boy’s race, for Quincy, Riley Horn was second and Zach Slack fourth while for Bronson, Matt Cosby was eighth and Wes Disbro tenth. In the girls race, Quincy had 6 runners in the top ten, led by the first place finish of Haley Bean. Bronson’s Corissa Ross placed tenth.
On today’s high school schedule, the boys soccer state tournament kicks off. In Division Two, Coldwater opens district play at home with a 6 pm match against Marshall. Coldwater begins the tournament with a 14-and-4 record and they were Honorable Mention in the final regular season Division Two coaches poll released Sunday after being ranked tenth in the state the previous week. Tonight’s winner advances to the district semi-finals at Gull Lake and a game Wednesday against Vicksburg. And Quincy is hosting a Division Four District this week and they begin play with a 4:30 pm match today against Bellevue.
