COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Athletes of all ages and experience levels are invited to work out or make a donation to the “Colors Conquering Cancer” event on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Tungsten Crossfit gym located at 169 S. Behnke Road in Coldwater.
Hosted by Tungsten CrossFit, the event is a fundraiser for the Community Health Center Foundation of Branch County. This event is in memory and honor of Tungsten Crossfit co-owner Rhonda Pebernat's mother, Phyllis Irene Hansel (1931-2013), who was a breast cancer survivor.
“All donations will go to the Foundation to benefit those in the battle against cancer, “said Pebernat. “We all know someone who has fought or is fighting against cancer and this is our chance to honor them and promote camaraderie amongst our athletes and the community.”
The event begins at 10 a.m. and will consist of running, snatches, and kettle bell figure eights. One part of the workout has the participants paint a stroke of color on a prepared canvas to represent all of the different colors of cancer. The final artwork “The Raw Beauty of Strength” will be revealed at the end of the workout and donated for auction to the Community Health Center Foundation.
“It’s a fun workout that anyone at any fitness level could try,” said Pebernat. “Participation in the workout is not required. Our members are collecting donations from those who do not wish to work out. We would however, like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in watching the workout to come cheer the athletes on.”
The minimum donation to participate in the workout is $30, which includes the price of a t-shirt. If someone donates $30 or more and does not want to work out, they are still entitled to a t-shirt. All proceeds will go to the Community Health Center Foundation of Branch County.
Donation checks are to be made payable to Tungsten CrossFit with the memo: Colors Conquering Cancer (CCC). All donors will be publicly recognized for their contributions. For more information about Tungsten Crossfit visit www.tungstencrossfit.com or call 269-830-7779.
