DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The detroit Lions Tuesday released tight-end Tony Scheffler, the Chelsea native who played at Western Michigan and was with Detroit for three plus seasons. The move made room on the roster to shore up the Lion’s depth at offensive tackle and yesterday Detroit signed Barry Richardson, who started 16 games last year at right tackle for the Rams. Sheffler, in his eighth year in the league, had missed practice since suffering a concussion in the Lion’s Week 5 loss at Green Bay. He was also expendable with the emergence of rookie tight end Joseph Fauria, who has 5 touchdowns this season. Detroit plays Sunday at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
