COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - A check for $31,000 has been presented to CHC Hospice Services at the Community Health Center of Branch County as the proceeds from this past summer’s 20th annual Great Hospice Duck Race. Held the first Saturday in June, the event is organized by a volunteer committee and each year with the hard work and generous support of the community they reach their goal of raising funds and awareness for hospice programs and services. All proceeds from the race go to support patient and volunteer service programs.
Since 1997, CHC has touched 1,060 patients through the Hospice program. In the last eighteen years, 100% of the money went directly to patient care in the community so those using hospice have received some type of financial assistance. The goal of hospice is to provide the terminally ill patient with the ability to control the direction of their care. The Duck Race is CHC Hospice Services only major fundraiser for the year and organizers say it would not be possible without the support of the community and their sponsors. Randy DeGroot, CHC CEO, and Home Health and Hospice employees, and committee members were on hand recently to receive the donation from John Rohloff, Duck Race Committee Chair.
