KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) - About a dozen immigration protestors staged a sit-in at the Kalamazoo Field Office of Congressman Fred Upton Friday evening, vowing not to leave until they got a response from the congressman. Brandon Siedlaczek says they want Upton to co-sponsor the bill and to put pressure on Speaker John Boehner to put it to a vote. They say their friends and relatives are being deported everyday and they need action now.
Upton spokesperson Lynn Turner says the bill is not in Congressman Upton's committee, but he is ready and willing to vote on it, or something like it. President Obama held a media event at the White House yesterday, urging the same thing, for the House to act on the Senate bill now.
