COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Get an early start on your holiday shopping and join the CHC Lobby Gift Shop Volunteers for the annual Holiday Gift Shop Open House on Sunday, November 10. The open house will take place from noon until 3 pm. This event will feature great holiday gift ideas for all the hard-to-buy people on your shopping list. Many of the unique gift shop items featured will be offered at a reduced cost as part of the open house storewide sale as well.
The CHC Gift Shop is a retail operation that is operated solely on the efforts of the Community Health Center Volunteers. Each year, the CHC Volunteers contribute thousands of hours toward the staffing and managing of the gift shop as there are no paid employees. The gift shop contributes approximately $25,000 to the hospital each year to be used for items that enhance patient care and comfort. The shop organizes a very successful jewelry sale and also offers sales periodically throughout the year. The shop has a free layaway program and gift certificates. Employees of CHC are offered the option of payroll deduction, which has proven very popular and profitable for the gift shop. All proceeds from the Gift Shop go to the hospital.
The CHC Lobby Gift Shop is located in the main lobby at CHC and is staffed with approximately 30 volunteers. The shop hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturdays, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays. Night lights, purses, jewelry, hand cream, candles, sports memorabilia, greeting cards, scarves, belts, gloves, home décor, plush, games, Christmas home décor, and Christmas tree ornaments are some of the different kinds of gifts that shoppers can expect to find.
The CHC Volunteer program consists of over 120 individuals who volunteered over 19,000 hours last year. The volunteers are responsible for such tasks as staffing the outpatient service center and welcome center, delivering mail to departments, cashiering in the gift shop, making calls to discharged patients, performing clerical duties for various areas of the hospital, and helping maintain the hospital campus. CHC Volunteer Services are always looking for applicants to join the team. If you would like more information on becoming a volunteer, please call 517-279-5008 or visit the CHC website at www.chcbc.com.
