MARTINSVILLE, VA (WTVB) - Jeff Gordon won Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Martinsville and kept his hopes at winning a fifth championship alive. Gordon jumped from fifth to third in the Chase standings and sits 27 points back of co-leaders Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson. Kenseth currently holds the tiebreaker with seven wins compared to Johnson’s five. Kenseth yesterday finished second to Gordon, followed by Clint Bowyer, Brad Keselowski and Johnson.
The victory was Gordon's 88th in his career but his first since last year's finale at Homestead. The Chase has just three races remaining with action heading to Texas this weekend before trips to Phoenix and Homestead.
