DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is scheduled to undergo surgery this week to repair a groin tear injury with several media outlets reporting the operation will happen today. Cabrera was hurt for most of the month of September and was clearly hampered by the injury during the postseason. He won his third straight batting title this season with a .348 average to go with 44 home runs and 137 RBI.
Detroit’s wide ranging search for a new manager to succeed the retired Jim Leyland continued Monday with team general manager Dave Dombrowski and his staff interviewing former Tiger catcher Brad Ausmus. The 44-year old Ausmus has been a special assistant with the San Diego Padres and is third candidate to be interviewed along with Lloyd McClendon and Tim Wallach.
