GIRARD TOWNSHIP, BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) - Swerving can be un-nerving for drivers that encounter deer in their headlights. Authorities say it’s always better to hit the deer and it’s also always a good idea, actually it’s the law, to be buckled up. Just ask 19-year old Cybil Rabideau of Coldwater. The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says Cybil was westbound on Jonesville Road in Girard Township around 2:30 this morning when she swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of her 2004 Chevy Cavalier. The car slammed into a tree and ended up on its roof. Rabideau was wearing her seat belt. She was also trapped in the wreckage until Deputy Al Fleming reached the scene and helped her out of the car. The Cavalier was totaled but the driver escaped injury.
The Coldwater Fire Department was also called out for assistance. Deputy Fleming said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and no citations were issued.
