COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County government’s spending plan for 2014 is starting to take shape. The first draft of next year’s budget had a deficit of 6-and-a-half million dollars with expenses of 17.6 million dollars. Draft Two got the red ink down to 2.2 million dollars with expenses trimmed to 13-and-a-half million dollars. So now it gets down to priorities and creating a list and checking it one, twice, and several times after that before a budget is adopted in December. Possible reinstatments for next year on an early list include deputies at the Sheriff’s Department along with positions for MSU Extension and Animal Control.
County Commissioners today are holding one of their twice a month Committee of the Whole work sessions.
