WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) - 7th District Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg hasn’t yet issued a public statement on whether or not he approves a possible United State strike on Syria. Fellow G-O-P lawmaker Fred Upton of St. Joseph says the President may get the Senate to approve an attack but he says he isn’t sure the U.S. House will go along. Right now Upton remains skeptical, but he also says he has yet to find out exactly what the White House may have in mind.
The Senate has approved a 90-day limit and a ban on troops going in, but Upton says it will take more than that to convince many house members. He says he has run a head count in his mind and the Obama Administration won’t have the democratic support he needs to overcome republican opposition, even with Speaker John Boehner in his corner.
So far four members of the Michigan Congressional Delegation, including both senators are backing the President. Three Republican Congressman say they are opposed and the other 9 are still either collecting data, haven’t made up their minds or haven’t been asked.
