ALBION, MI (WTVB) - More evidence emerging of just how strong those storm cells were on Wednesday that for the most part skipped around Branch County. The National Weather Service dispatched a team to Calhoun County to look at the damage in Albion and it appears it was caused by a micro-burst. That’s a straight line tornado with gusts of between 70 and 80 miles per hour. It blew huge trees over, pulling the roots right up through sidewalks, smashed cars and damaged homes and blew the roofs off downtown businesses.
Almost all the power has since been restored but it will take a while to remove all the debris. Albion College will remain closed until Sunday at noon and classes won’t resume until Monday.
