DETROIT (WTVB) - The Tigers have won three straight following their 3 game losing streak after doubling up the Royals 6-3 last night in the opener of a 3 game series at Comerica Park. Prince Fielder and Torii Hunter each knocked in three runs for Detroit. Fielder hit a two-run homer and Justin Verlander struck out seven with no walks over 6 2/3 innings of three-run ball to improve to 13-11. Joaquin Benoit notched his 19th save by recording the final four outs. The win keeps Detroit’s American League Central lead over the second place Indians at six games. KC is now 3 1/2 games out of the AL's second Wild Card spot. The White Sox lost 3-1 to Cleveland last night in Chicago while the Cubs beat the Pirates 5-4 in Pittsburgh.
