DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Tigers bats woke up late in a 6-2 win over the Mariners last night in game two of a 4-game series at Comerica Park. The victory means Detroit’s magic number to eliminate the second place Indians in the American League Central is six. The Tigers last night scored one on the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth. Miguel Cabrera and Don Kelly connected on solo homers for Detroit and Austin Jackson added a 2-run single. It was Cabrera’s 44th home run of the season, but his first since August 26th.
Reliever Al Alburquerque grabbed the win while Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez struck out 10 and allowed two runs over six-and-one-third innings. The Tigers shoot for their seventh win in 8 games tonight with Justin Verlander set to start for Detroit.
The Chicago White Sox edged the Minnesota Twins 4-3 last night in Chicago while the Cubs fell by the same score at Milwaukee.
