Potential Primary Challenger to Fred Upton Emerges South of Lakeshore

US House candidate Jim Bussler (R-Dowagiac)

DOWAGIAC, MI (WHTC) - If Fred Upton wishes to run for reelection next year, he may face a primary challenge. Jim Bussler, a 45-year-old registered nurse from Dowagiac, is seeking the GOP nomination to represent southwest Michigan in Congress, including most of Allegan County. Bussler, who never ran for public office before, claims that Upton, who has served in the House since 1993, caters to donors and special interest groups, a charge the Congressman refutes. Upton disposed of Jack Hoogendyk in last year’s primary en route to winning reelection.
