10th ranked Coldwater tennis team wins again, Quincy volleyball tops Springport

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports yesterday, in boy’s tennis, Coldwater’s tenth-ranked Cardinals scored a 5-to-3 SMAC East victory at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. Winners for Coldwater were Dylan Linklater and Kumaran Arivoli at first and second singles along with Buddy Bailey and Austin Butler at second doubles, Nolan Duda and Kaegen Dwyer at third doubles and Austin Hodson and Kameron Miller at fourth doubles. The Cardinals also took the j-v match 4-2. Winners for Coldwater were Shane O’Grady, Evan Henry and Sean Delaney at first, second, and fourth singles along with the first doubles team of Daniel Shirky and Dillon Gagnon.

In volleyball, last night in the Big 8, Quincy was a 3-0 winner at Springport. Mackenzie Moore had 8 kills and 4 blocks. Ali Silva had 4 aces and ten assists and Bailey Knaack added 10 assists and 2 blocks. Also, Union City fell 3-0 at home to Concord. Haley Harty had 15 digs, Haley McIntosh 10 kills, Bailee White 12 assists and Rachel Wing 4 blocks. The Lady Chargers slip to 1-and-1 in league play and 12-8-and-2 overall.

In cross country, Quincy and Union City ran in a Big 8 Jamboree at Homer with the Quincy boys team taking second place with Union City sixth while for the girls, Quincy was third and Union City fifth. Leading the Quincy boys was Riley Horn with a second place finish while Zach Slack placed tenth. Union City’s Skyler Flanders finished in 18th place. In the girls race, for Quincy, Haley Bean was third and Katie Spalding seventh while for Union City, Katie Birch placed fifth.  

Also in cross country, in a St. Joe Valley quad meet hosted by Bronson, the Vikings’ boys team took third place while the Bronson girls finished second. Leading the way in the boys race were Matthew Cosby in second place and Wes Disbro in fifth place while for the Lady Vikings Corissa Ross finished fourth and Mary Albarran sixth.

tuesday in j-v soccer, Coldwater was an 8-to-0 winner at home over Charlotte. It was the Cardinal’s seventh shutout of the season. Essa Mohsen and Mana Ahmed had 2 goals apiece while Ethan Machita, Aabdul Saied, Kaid Salah and Cameron Barnes each added a goal. Coldwater outshot Charlotte 15-1 with one save in goal for Mana Ahmed. The j-v Cardinals improved their record to 8-0-and-1.

On today’s high school schedule, in volleyball, it’s Coldwater at Marshall while Bronson hosts Mendon. And in boys tennis, Coldwater plays at home with the Cardinals hosting a SMAC West Crossover match. Today on the Coaches Corner, it’s Bronson football coach Dan Burzynski.

In middle school sports, in volleyball, it was Coldwater at Battle Creek Lakeview. The visiting Lady Cardinals swept the eighth grade matches. The “A”  team won 2-0 with eight points each for Isabella Foley, Allison Adams and Kaci White. The “B” team beat the Spartans 3-0. Abby Licht was good on 23 serves while Addison Harvey and Payten Bergman were the passing leaders. In the seventh grade “A” match, Coldwater fell 2-1 with 9 points for Samantha Rodesiler and 8 for Tyler Scheid. The Lady Cards took the “B” match 3-0 with 13 serving points for Hailey Steel, including 12 aces.
