DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Lions have lost their second leading receiver for the indefinite future. Nate Burleson is slated to have surgery today for a broken arm. The injury happened early Tuesday morning when Burleson crashed his SUV into the median on I-696 in Farmington Hills. Police say no alcohol was involved. Burleson was apparently distracted by a pizza box falling off the seat just prior to the accident that occurred around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday as he was on his way home from watching “Monday Night Football” with friends.
Lions head coach Jim Schwartz says the veteran receiver broke both bones in his forearm, but the team has no plans to place him on injured reserve. First place in the NFC North will be on the line Sunday at Ford Field when the 2-and-1 Lions take on the 3-and-0 Chicago Bears.
