UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - The home of a Branch County business owner has been gutted by fire. There were no injuries in the blaze Tuesday south of Union City on Arbogast Road where firefighters found the Chris Mead residence engulfed in flames when they reached the scene around 10 a.m. yesterday. Mead owns Fabiano’s Family Restaurant in Union City and told Union City Fire Chief Dave Hughes that he had left home about 45 minutes before the fire was spotted. The 2-story structure was declared a total loss. They were able to save the family dog.
Hughes said they don’t know what caused the fire but said it possibly might have started in the living room. Firemen were on the job for more than six hours. Union City received mutual aid from the Sherwood, Athens, and Burlington Fire Department.
