COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, yesterday in girls tennis, Coldwater won their first dual match of the season 6-2 at home over Adrian. It was a sweep in singles for the host Lady Cardinals with victories for Madison Zinn, Emma Grife, Emma Dwyer, and Fawn Andrews. Coldwater also posted wins at first doubles with Karissa Harrell and Sadie Youse and at fourth doubles with Allison Eastmead and Emilie Dunny.
In the j-v match, Coldwater beat Adrian 5-1. Winning at first and third singles were Emily Hicks and Katie Kanouse while also victorious were Tara Davis and Mayra Barjas at first doubles and Madison Fox and Kayle Riley at second doubles. The fifth point for Coldwater came by default at third doubles. The Lady Cardinals next scheduled match is at home tomorrow against Battle Creek Central.
Today’s high school schedule includes Coldwater’s baseball and softball season openers at home in doubleheader action against Battle Creek Central. We’ll have the baseball on the radio with our live coverage joining the twinbill in progress around 5:30 following the Evening Journal. The j-v baseball at Battle Creek has been cancelled because of field conditions while no j-v softball games with Central were scheduled.
Also due to poor field conditions, today’s Coldwater girls JV and varsity soccer games at Charlotte have been postponed. No make-up date has been set yet. Coldwater's next scheduled match is the varsity only annual "Battle of the Birds" Thursday at Quincy starting at 5:30 p.m. Unplayable field conditions have also prompted the cancellation or postponement of the rest of today’s scheduled events for Branch County teams other than the Coldwater baseball and softball games.
Today on the Coaches Corners, we’ll preview Quincy girls soccer with coach Tim Hart.
